Urban Active, a fitness center, plans to occupy 41,000 square feet on the second floor of Bakery Square, an office and retail redevelopment project at 6425 Penn Ave. in Pittsburgh, PA.

The gym, which has a partnership with fitness chain Global Fitness Holdings (formerly Gold's Gym), plans to take occupancy in the spring of 2009. It will offer basketball and racquetball courts, a cardio theatre, swimming pools, Pilates and aerobics classes and personal training classes.

Located across the street from Mellon Park in the Parkway East Corridor, the property will be redeveloped from an office building into a mixed-use complex. Plans call for 132,000 square feet of retail space, 153,400 square feet of office space, a 120-room hotel, 38 residential units and a parking garage for 992 vehicles. Walnut Capital is the developer.

Retailers in the Bakery Square vicinity include Whole Foods and Home Depot, as well as high-end fashion stores including Ann Taylor, Pottery Barn and The Gap.

Tony Dolan of Walnut Capital and Herky Pollock and Jeremy Kronman of CB Richard Ellis are handling leasing for the property.
